In 2014 Amy & David Alton set out to circumnavigate the world on “Starry Horizon” , a Helia 44 made by Fountain Pajot. The two of them have since shared their story in this amazing blog called Out Chasing Stars. In it, they cover everything from the boats purchase and setup to destinations, cruising costs and personal thoughts on cruising. Their journey around the world to date has been inspirational to many. We certainly to note during our quest of finding the “right” catamaran to suit us for our future plans and global cruising.
What makes these blogs and You Tube episodes so likable are the couples personalities. No superfit, bronzed muscly dude with fierce tattoos water skiing at insane speeds two inches over a coral reef in front of an exploding volcano whilst taking endless selfies and drinking Corona. Just an “normal” couple cruising to some awesome destinations and sharing their experiences along the way. Granted, they are young for their achievements but more respect to them for working hard and focusing on turning their dream into reality early (and possibly forgoing future job security in return)
The video footage produced has dramatically improved since the beginning and the use of a drone gives you a perspective that you would otherwise not get.
For those who want to set out sailing it provides plenty of inspiration, for those who will never go sailing it brings the world into your living room and for for those already out there it might just show a few spots worthwhile visiting. Visit their site and have a look….
Well done Amy & David. Thank you and keep us posted.
